Skillet Bacon Jam Review

You are probably thinking "what on earth is skillet bacon jam?" Well, it isn't really a jam. It is more of a spread that has been deemed "skillet bacon jam". What is in it? Niman ranch bacon, onions, balsamic and other spices all rendered down into this lovely little bacon spread.

My family loves bacon, so we were very excited to try the skillet bacon jam. I admit that when it first arrived it looked a little scary because the mixture had settled. After I mixed it up with a spoon it looked yummy. I tried a little bit of it and I found that it was very tart and tasted like it had a little bit too much bacon fat/ grease for my liking. So, I decided to try it again on something. The skillet bacon jam is supposed to be great on hamburgers, grilled cheese, B.L.T.'s or really anything that you eat bacon on. My Husband and myself like to occasionally eat bacon on our morning bagels (bagel, cream cheese & bacon= yum). So, I decided to put some of this on a bagel with cream cheese. Unfortunately, it did not taste very good. I think it was a little too oily on top of the cream cheese and it made it heavy and not very yummy. I do plan on trying the skillet bacon jam again on hamburgers. I think that the fat and oil would blend in well on top of a burger and give it a great flavor.

I should also mention that Skillet Bacon Jam does not stay good for very long. This is something you have to use shortly after buying it. Do not plan on keeping it in your fridge for months and using it at your leisure. Given the fast expiration date, I wish that they sold it in smaller jars. You can buy Skillet Bacon Jam online. Or, if you live in Seattle, Washington you can visit the food truck where it all started: skillet street food.

Smaller jars? The jar I received was so small it probably couldn't have held more than 3-4 tbsp.

Other than the fact that I got such a small free sample sized jar, I loved this stuff! Mine didn't seem to settle or be too greasy, just a strong bacony, salty, sweet taste. Maybe we got samples from a different batch?

I was thinking maybe I got a bad batch too. We received really tiny jars, but the ones you can buy online are a lot bigger and there is no way you could use all that in the time that it stays good.
