If you have read my past Gorton's reviews then you already know that I love Gorton's Seafood. You also know that I normally eat the fried varieties. Well, since I have started eating healthier I have switched over to the grilled Gorton's Seafood. Guess what? They are just as good (if not better!). I think part of the reason that I prefer fried seafood is that the breading can hide the "fishy" taste of not so fresh fish. With Gorton's you do not have to worry about that. Their seafood is fresh tasting and delicious. For this review I tried the Grilled Tilapia in Lemon Peppercorn and the Lemon Shrimp Scampi.
The Lemon Peppercorn Grilled Tilapia has a nice subtle lemon flavor. The fish comes in square patties that are really easy to cook. You just put them on a foil lined pan and place them in the oven to cook. Mine came out perfectly following the package directions. They were light and flaky and delicious. If you are unfamiliar with Tilapia, it is a light white fish that is rarely "fishy" and it is a fish that goes well with flavorful sauces and seasonings. Tilapia is my favorite fish which is one of the reasons why I decided to go with the Lemon Peppercorn Grilled Tilapia.
The only complaint I have is that they are not big enough. The plate pictured above is a small plate, not a normal size plate. They are still big enough for a lunch or dinner, you just need to add extra sides or a salad to feel satisfied. I personally wish there were three per package instead of two so that Hubby and myself could have 1 & 1/2 each. Despite this, we have actually purchased a couple more of these recently to keep on hand. Yes, they are that good!
The Lemon Shrimp Scampi was actually my favorite of the two. The sauce in this dish is to die for! It is a thicky, creamy, buttery lemon sauce. The sauce was so good that I actually ate the rest of it out of the bowl with a spoon after my shrimp were gone. The shrimp also tasted perfect. They were nicely cooked following the directions and didn't taste "fishy" or "frozen". This would be perfect over angel hair pasta or even rice. Since we are not eating carbs, I decided to just make it and put it in bowls and have a salad on the side. You are probably thinking that it looks like that sauce does have carbs in it. Well, it does. I saw it at the store and had to try it. So, for this one meal we splurged some. It was well worth it. As soon as our diet is over, I am making this over some pasta. : )
I actually thought that the Lemon Shrimp Scampi box was a perfect portion for two people (particularly if you pair it with pasta). Warning: this could become super addictive.
