Battle of the Sample Boxes: MyGlam (Ipsy) vs. Birchbox September

Sorry this post is so late this month. MyGlam decided to make a lot of changes without informing their subscribers. They are now called Ipsy (I am going to refer to them as MyGlam still this month). They also changed their shipping to later in the month and created a lame social website.  Here is what I got:

*Now known as "Ipsy"
*$10 a month
*It was started by Michelle Phan (who is a Youtube Beauty Guru)
*Every month you receive a make-up bag with deluxe samples and full sized products
 September bag;
 *SOHO Smudge Brush ($5.97)
*Circus by Andrea's Choice in Tightrope (not for sale to public yet, estimating $8)
*Mirabella Eye Shadow in Semiformal ($10)
*Jane sparkle gloss in sparkle pink ($9.99 for 3= $3.33)
*Carol's Daughter Monoi Repairing Split End Serum ($25 for 1.7oz, 0.38oz= $5.59)
*Black clutch bag (value unknown)
Total value: $32.89 before bag

Initial Thoughts: I really love the Carol's Daughter Serum. It makes my hair feel and smell so good. Plus, I have never used a split end serum before. The Mirabella eyeshadow is gorgeous, but kind of awkward since it seems to be eyeshadow that is supposed to be put into a palette. I'm really not sure how to store it. I love the SOHO smudge brush. The Jane gloss is really sticky and just makes my lips feel awful. I think I am tossing it. Andrea's Choice nail polish....again? Uggg. At least this color is somewhat wearable (unlike the other two they sent me). The clutch is cute, but I will probably just use it as a makeup bag. Overall, a pretty nice bag. Definitely worth the $10.

*$10 a month
*Created by Harvard Grads
*You receive 4-5 "deluxe samples" every month, occasionally full sized products
*You get bonus points for answering short surveys about the products you receive. You can then use those points to buy products at the their store (i.e.: FREE Stuff!)
 -My September box:
*BVLGARI Mon Jasmin Noir (perfume) ($83 for 50ml, about $1)
*Color Club nail polish in "Insta-This" ($8 for 0.5oz,  0.25oz= $4)
*Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25+ ($32 for 1.7oz, 0.1oz= $1.88)
*LiQWd Professional Volumizing Catalyst ($22 for 150ml, 10ml= $1.47)
*twistband Birchbox custom lace hair tie ($14 for 6, 1 = $2.33)
*LiQWd Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner one-time use packs (about $0.96)
*Birchbox digital download from Tristan Prettyman
Total Value: $11.64
Inital Thoughts: I was pretty happy with this box until I did the actual break down and found out it wasn't worth much more than the $10 I spent for it (I did get $7 back from surveys, so I really spent $3). I do like all of the contents. I was really excited to try the Dr. Jart+ BB cream and the LiQWd. I am one of the few people that like twistbands too (I have thick, long hair & they keep my hair up without damaging it). Overall, I am happy with the box. I just hope the value of my next box makes up for this one.
This months winner: MyGlam. Even though they had two products I didn't care for (the lip gloss and the nail polish), they still had the better box out of the remaining products.
