Our Search for the Perfect House

My Husband and Myself have been spending long hours looking at houses the last two months. House Hunting is very frustrating. This is our first house so we want to make sure that we buy the right house. We have a very specific list of things that we would like and the area that we would like to live in. We also want to make sure that the house is in great shape and not going to need any major repairs anytime soon. We quickly learned that in order to achieve this we would need to buy a newer home or have our own house built.

Some of our requirements are:

*3 bedrooms/ preferably 2 baths
*Decent sized kitchen
*Central Air
*Fenced back yard (strongly want, but we are willing to do ourselves)
*A garage
*Washer/Dryer Hook Up
*Not in a flood zone
*No termites
*No structure/roof damage

That doesn't seem like a lot to ask, does it? I don't think so. However, it is apparently difficult to find. Some houses have most features, but are lacking other features we want. We don't want to "settle" for a house. We want to find the perfect fit.

We finally found a house that we loved and that had all of our requirements. It was only 8 years old and gorgeous. We hesitated and lost the house to another bidder. I was a little devastated. So, the house hunt continues. We are now also looking into having a brand new house built. You can find information about buying new homes at BHI's Start Fresh Buy New. There are SO many benefits to building your own house:

1) You get to pick everything. Your layout, carpet, closet size, kitchen counters, flooring, cabinets, EVERYTHING. This guarantees there won't be anything you hate.
2) Everything is brand new. You know that you won't have to replace the roof, air conditioner, window frames, etc. anytime soon. Yes, new stuff can break, but it is a lot less likely.
3) You don't have to worry about what the previous owners did. Did they cover up termite damage with shiny paint? Is that Jesus painting really super glued to the wall (this happened to my Parents when they bought their house!)?
4) Newly built homes are more energy efficient. You can save a lot of money on your power bills.
5) You have more control over your neighborhood.
6) You can watch your dream home come to life before your eyes.

The hunt continues. Wish us luck with whatever we decide!

I've always dreamed of building my own house someday and having one built from scratch has to be perfect.
