Battle of the Sample Boxes: Ipsy Vs.Sample Society {July 2013}

July was a really good month for my subscription boxes! Here is what I received:

*$10 a month
*It was started by Michelle Phan (who is a Youtube Beauty Guru)
*Every month you receive a make-up bag with deluxe samples and full sized products
My July bag:

*Coola face mineral sunscreen ($36 for 50ml, 7ml = $5.04)
*Pop Pouty Pop Crayon in Coral Crush ($25 for 6, 1 FULL SIZE crayon = $4.16)
*Big Sexy Hair Weather Proof Humidity Resistant Spray ($18.95 for 3.4oz. 1.4oz = $7.80)
*Nailtini in Mai Tai (FULL SIZE $13)
*bh cosemetics California Collection eyeshadow sample (Hollywood, San Francisco and Malibu) ($9.95 for the entire palette, so this is worth less than $1)
*Makeup bag (unknown value)
*BONUS (for referrals..note: not everyone received this): Nicole by OPI Pretty in Plum (Selena Gomez collection) (FULL SIZE $7)
TOTAL VALUE before makeup bag: $38 ($31 without bonus)

Initial Thoughts: LOVE IT! I am a nail polish junkie and the colors are both unique and gorgeous. I also really love the Pop lip crayon. The color works well with my skin tone. I will toss the Big Sexy Hair in with my straight iron and maybe use it eventually. I used to have a huge bh cosmetics palette and I tossed it because it was so cheap and not very pigmented. These three colors are pretty so I will give them another chance. I am a pale girl in Florida, so the sunscreen will definitely come in handy sometime this summer. Overall, a great bag.

Sample Society (Please use code TFL99 if you sign up)
*$15 a month
*Creation of Allure and Beauty Bar
*5 deluxe-sized samples
*$15 gift code to redeem on a $50 purchase - when any product from the brands you've sampled is included in your order.
*Expert beauty advice to accompany your samples from the editors of Allure
My July box:

With all the packaging

Without packaging...note how the perfume shrunk!
*Vincent Longo Eyeshadow Trio in Sweet Melody (FULL SIZE! $30)
*Dr. T's Supergoop! Coty Sunscreen Serum SPF 30 (15ml= $45, 2ml = $6)
*Tres Pure Face Tonic (118ml= $65, 10ml = $5.51)
*Lavanila The Healthy Fragrance Pure Vanilla (1oz = $42, .13oz - $5.46)
*Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip Plumper in Tokyo (full size is $25, this is a really tiny unknown size. estimated value: $5)
Total estimated Value: $51.97

Initial Thoughts: Love the eyeshadow and Jane Iredale Plumper (although I wish it wasn't so tiny!). I'm not a fan of the Supergoop! brand. It normally makes my skin oily. The perfume was a little disappointing when the huge box had a tiny vial. Then I smelled it and I don't care for it anyhow. I don't like to smell like vanilla for some reason even though I like the scent of vanilla. The face tonic intrigues me and I am really excited to try it. I was happy enough with this box. While some of the products are not for me...I still think it was still worth my money.

This Month's Winner: Ipsy! Although the value of the Ipsy bag was lower than the Sample Society box, it had more products that I will use. It was a good month for both companies. What did you get in your sample boxes? Feel free to share a link below if you shared your boxes.

Thanks for the review, I have not gotten a subscription yet because I feel overwhelmed with the choices. it seems like Ipsy has a lot of what I like and if they keep throwing in nail polish---awesome

I love beauty sample boxes. I'm subscribed to three already and now you have me thinking about a third one!
