Battle of the Sample Boxes: Ipsy Vs. Sample Soceity {December}

This month has been full of packages, but I still looked forward to getting my Ipsy and Sample Society boxes. Sadly, they did not wow me this month. Here is what I received:
*$10 a month
*It was started by Michelle Phan (who is a Youtube Beauty Guru)
*Every month you receive a make-up bag with deluxe samples and full sized products
My December Bag:
The contents of the pink packet: his/hers perfume/cologne
*Be a Bombshell "The One Stick" in Flustered (FULL SIZE $16)
*POP Beauty Eyeshadow Trio in Smokin' Hot ($24 for 10 color palette, Trio = $7.20)
*NYX lipstick in Sky Pink (FULL SIZE $4)
*Signature and Signature Pour Femme by English Laundry ($72 for 1.7oz, 5ml each (10ml total) = $14.12)
*NICKA A New York nail color (FULL SIZE $4.99)
*Makeup bag (unknown value)
TOTAL before makeup bag: $46.31

Initial Thoughts: I love most the products...just not the colors. NYX lipstick may be cheap, but it is awesome. Unfortunately, this color does not work for me. It is a little paler than my lips and makes me look washed out. The nailpolish is pretty, but I have tons of reds and don't wear them often. The eyeshadow is bland colors and I am an Urban Decay junkie, so I probably won't use it. The Be a Bombshell One Stick is pretty cool. I just wish it wasn't so red. I am going to have to really blend and maybe mix other products with it to use it. My favorite thing was actually probably the Signature fragrances from English Laundry. Normally I don't like to receive perfume samples in my boxes. However, this had TWO larger samples and it smells amazing. I have already used about a third of the perfume. The smell is addicting. The cologne is okay, but not something I would buy for my Husband. It was still neat to be able to give him a sample and still have a perfume sample myself.

Sample Society (Please use code TFL99 if you sign up)
*$15 a month
*Creation of Allure and Beauty Bar
*5 deluxe-sized samples
*$15 gift code to redeem on a $50 purchase - when any product from the brands you've sampled is included in your order.
*Expert beauty advice to accompany your samples from the editors of Allure
My December box:

 *Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant ($52 for 75g, 13g =$9.01)
*Oscar Blandi Hair Lift Mousse ($23 for 178.6g, 28.3g = $3.64)
*Aromachology Fresh Eau de Parfum ($100 for 3.4oz, approx. 0.08oz = $2.35)
*Philosophy Hope in a Jar Night Intensive Retexturizing Moisturizer ($48 for 60ml, 12ml = $9.60)
*Alterna Caviar Dry Shampoo ($22 for 75g, 3g= $0.88)

Initial Thoughts: I'm getting a little frustrated with Sample Society and thinking about cancelling. They do have higher end products than Ipsy, but they have such small sample sizes! I love Alterna, but why even bother with sending me this tiny little 88 cent bottle? It isn't going to be enough for more than one use (if that). I do love the Dermalogica and Aromachology (it smells sort of like soap..really clean). I'm not a huge Philosophy fan and I don't really use mousse. This box is mostly a bust. Not worth the $15 for me. I will give them a few more months or until I find a more promising box.

This month's winner: Ipsy. Again. While I wasn't in love with the colors I received with Ipsy, I can still use most of it. I also received several full sized products from Ipsy.
Do you get sample boxes? What did you get? Any recommendations for a Sample Society replacement (I would like to keep it at $10-$15 a month and Birchbox is not an option since I already left them).

I haven't tried any of these sample boxes. I did Bulu once but not a fan... cool stuff!
