Battle of the Sample Boxes: Ipsy vs. Sample Society {March}

This month has been flying by for me. For once it didn't seem like I was waiting forever to get my beauty subscriptions. They were almost here before I realized it was March (at least Sample Society was). Here is what I received for the month of March:
*$10 a month
*It was started by Michelle Phan (who is a Youtube Beauty Guru)
*Every month you receive a make-up bag with deluxe samples and full sized products
*Take small surveys on the products you receive and give your friends your referral link for Ipsy points. Trade in the points for bonus items.
My March Bag:

*bareMinerals marvelous MOXIE in Rebel ($18 for 4.5ml, 2.25ml = $9)
*Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream (50ml for $22, 10ml= $4.40)
*Klorane Smoothing and Relaxing eye patches (2 packs of 2) ($18 for 7 pieces, 4 patches = $10.28)
*Be a Bombshell Cosmetics bora bora eyeshadow quad (FULL SIZE $16)
*Makeup bag (unknown value)

TOTAL before makeup bag: $39.68

Initial Thoughts: Conflicted. The bareMinerals lip gloss makes me VERY happy. So does the BB Cream. I have never heard of this brand, but I have a slight obsession with trying all the different BB Creams on the market. I promised myself I will only spend money on Smashbox BB Cream (it's the far). So, my beauty boxes are the only way I get to try other brands. I am very intrigued by the eye patches. I've never used any before and I am excited to try them out. The eyeshadow quad is a bit of a let down. I love the colors, but the eyeshadow is horrible. I don't know how they charge $16 for this crap. It has very little pigment and it does not last. I rubbed it on my hand and it rubbed away completely with little effort. Since this was the most expensive thing in my bag, I am really bummed that I don't like it.

Sample Society (Please use code TFL99 if you sign up)
*$15 a month
*Creation of Allure and Beauty Bar
*5 deluxe-sized samples
*$15 gift code to redeem on a $50 purchase - when any product from the brands you've sampled is included in your order.
*Expert beauty advice to accompany your samples from the editors of Allure
My March box:

*Alterna Caviar CC Cream 10-in-1 leave-in hair perfector ($25 for 74ml, 25ml= $8.45)
*Jane Iredale Tantasia ($36 for 4.2oz, unknown size, est. 0.25oz= $4.29)
*Clark's Botanicals Deep Moisture Mask ($72 for 1.7oz, unknown size, est 0.25oz= $10.59)
*Elemental Herbology Facial Detox Purifying Facial Mask ($46.29 for 75ml, 15ml= $9.26)
*Jane Train hair accessories (value: $3.64)
TOTAL VALUE: $36.23 (note: I had to guess the size of 2 products, so I don't know how accurate this total is)

Initial Thoughts: Honestly, this box looked pretty empty when I opened it. I was a little disappointed in the size of the samples. I was excited though when I started looking closer and seeing what I had. I ADORE Alterna products. Sample Society has sent me three of them now and every single one is amazing. I will also use the two facial masks. The Clark's Botanicals one can also be used as a moisturizer which is cool. I won't use the Tantasia at all. I am a pale white girl that doesn't like fake tanner since it almost always looks streaky and/or orange. The Jane Train hair accessories are cute and I will probably use them. Overall, a decent box.

This month's winner: Sample Society. Neither box really impressed me, but Sample Society had more products I was happy to try and will use.

Do you get sample boxes? What did you get?

I've been interested in getting one of these subscription boxes, so I liked reading about what you get! Thanks for the insight!

Good information! I, too have been interested in the boxes. I'm so paranoid I'll get scammed!
