Achy Paws Self-Warming Pet Mat + Giveaway

*Disclosure: I received this product as part of an advertorial.

I have an adorable 7 year old Chihuahua. I am always looking for ways to make his life better or more comfortable. In other words, he is spoiled rotten. When I first heard about Achy Paws Self-Warming Pet Mats I knew he would love to have one.The Achy Paws Pet Mat is triple-layered with an inner layer of 100% activated bamboo charcoal that activates with an animals body heat. The body heat then soothes tired muscles and achy joints.

Achy Paws Benefits:

*Circulating Warmth
*Soothe achy Joints
*Reduce Soreness
*Ease Discomfort
*Calm Restlessness
*Absorb Odor and Dander
*Comfortable Fleece
*Protects Your Furniture

Achy Paws comes in 5 different sizes:

Small:  20"x20"
Medium: 30"x20"
Large: 40"x30"
X-Large: 50"x30"
XX-Large: 60"x40"

I was tired and getting ready for bed when I picked the size of my Achy Paws Mat. Although Tequila (my dog) is only 13-14 lbs (he is a big Chihuahua), he SPRAWLS when he sleeps. So, I wanted to get a larger mat. I picked the X-Large and when it arrived it was HUGE! I think a medium would have probably have been more appropriate for Tequila.

As you can see in the above picture, it takes up a cushion and a half on our sectional (which has very wide seats). I ended up folding it in half for Tequila to use and it is the perfect size that way.

He is not sprawled in this picture...but trust me...he takes up ALL this room when he sprawls

As I suspected, Tequila was really excited and happy to try out the Achy Paws Mat. He jumped on the mat before I had even set it down. He then proceeded to jump around in circles like he does when he is really excited. Once he settled down he was definitely calmer than normal. He normally will not sit still for me to take a picture of him and I have to take dozens of pictures just to get one that has his face in it. As you can see in the above picture he allowed me to take several pictures of him! He chilled on the mat for a little while and then he figured out that it was folded in half. He decided that he wanted it under AND on top of him.

He made a puppy burrito:

That's my boy! He is a very smart dog. As you can see by the middle picture above, it did not take long for him to start chewing on this mat either. He seems to think it is a toy as well as a warm blanket. Luckily, this mat is well made! He has chewed on it quite a bit and it isn't torn up at all.

So, does the heating part work? It definitely warms up under his body when he lays on it. It doesn't get HOT like a heating pad (which is a good thing because it could burn him and possibly be a fire hazard), but it gets a nice warmth to it. The mat seems to cool back down shortly after he leaves it. It is really neat.

The Achy Paws mat is also supposed to absorb odor and dander which is neat. Tequila hasn't really been smelly this month because we have kept him out of the rain and he has been bathed regularly, but I like this feature. You can place the mat under direct sunlight or a full spectrum light bulb for an hour to reverse and odor and airborne pollutants that the mat has absorbed. Cool!

The only thing I would change about this mat is the color. It is white and shows every single dog hair. Tequila has hair that is ridiculously thick and he sheds a lot. Plus, animals tend to be dirty and make messes. I have two cats also and we avoid most things white if we can between the three animals. Luckily the mat is easy to clean because it is machine washable.

If you have a furry creature in your life, I definitely recommend trying Achy Paws Self-Warming Pet Mat. I can't imagine a cat or dog that wouldn't love it. The company that makes Achy Paws is The Healing Tree and they also make some self-heating products for humans! If you sign up for their newsletter you can even get free shipping.
